Which Twin Is The Tony?

I do not particularly want to comment much on the race to be American President, except, of course, when it impacts here.

But I have noticed that Pat Robertson has endorsed Rudy Giuliani. And it is hard to understand why some American evangelicals who would go under the "Religious Right" banner could even object to Giuliani.

What's that? He's liberal. So? Oh, and he's pro-abortion. Well?

If the USA became an Islamic state, then abortion would be banned. Much of the thing that the "Religious Right" want would happen under an Islamic dicatorship.

Instead of worrying about what sort of judges that Giuliani would appoint to the Supreme Court, and what liberal legislation he would introduce, American evangelicals should focus on the big picture- i.e. the War on Terror. Abortion is secondary to that.

Shocked? Put the boot on the other foot. Say "Tony Blair" instead of Giuliani and "United Kingdom" instead of "USA".

My point is that when I noted how Blair had introduced plenty of legislation that goes against Christian values, I was shouted down online by American evangelicals who said that the things that British evangelicals wanted would happen in an Islamic Britain, and that instead we should focus on the big picture.

And my message is this:

It is inconsistent and hypocritical to attack British evangelicals over our objections to Blair and then to say that you will not support Giuliani's bid for the Presidency, using the same arguments to criticise Giuliani that British evangelicals have used to criticise Blair's time as Prime Minister.

If you supported Blair and turned a blind eye to the legislation he introduced, and especially if you lectured British evangelicals on how we should support Blair, then you should have no objection to Giuliani taking office in January 2009.
